From Alaska to White Sands

Lopez Island, Odlin County Park

White Sands National Monument. Gypsum from Delaware Sea, Permian Basin. 20 million years old!

T-Mobile Park is a retractable roof baseball park located in Seattle, Washington during Hutch Award Luncheon.

Beach sand from a beach near Homer, Alaska. Homer is a small city on Kachemak Bay, on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. A focal point is the Homer Spit, a long strip of land with shops, art galleries, seafood restaurants and beaches. Fishing boats dock at its harbor. Galleries also cluster on Pioneer Avenue, near the Pratt Museum, which shows local art and artifacts, including a pioneer cabin. The Alaska Islands and Oceans Visitor Center has wildlife exhibits.

*Scree is a collection of broken rock fragments at the base of crags, mountain cliffs, volcanoes or valley shoulders that has accumulated through periodic rockfall from adjacent cliff faces. Landforms associated with these materials are often called talus deposits. Talus deposits typically have a concave upwards form, while the maximum inclination corresponds to the angle of repose of the mean debris size.

I only have a sand collection because of the very generous friends and coworkers I have! They travel and bring me some incredible bags of sand! Jim even gave me a detailed map!
